Art Basel

I got up early this morning (technically yesterday morning...) and shipped off to Miami for the day. Gorgeous weather on the way there, for what I was awake of it. There was no hassle, all was well and ran smoothly. It was a bit overwhelming, first walking in. The actual building was the most interesting... It was like a warehouse- huge, with those better, more deco ceilings that Sam's Club has that seem to be 10 stories high.
It was like the strange offspring of a museum and a convention. There were "booths" and displays set up. It had a very similar grid pattern to a convention hall... after all, I suppose it was in the Miami Beach convention center... but for as many people as were there, the temperature was fair, it wasn't deafening, it wasn't too claustrophobic... plus there was champagne and fine art...
The "fine" art part is what gets me. I was so excited upon arriving I just headed in one direction and raced through it... after an hour or so, I had seen just about everything in a glimpse. I went back and jotted down names and pieces that I liked, only to figure out that I could barely fill a page:
"Regen Project"; Vaness Beecraft"Blonde Figure Lying"; Tara Donovan - works with Mylar (some of my favourites); Mark Fendforth; Kibong Rhee"ghost of a tree"; Sean Kelly; Chiho Aoshima "chicken girls"; Regina Silvera; DUANE HENSON; Evan Penny "Murray #3" (this one was obviously one of the favourites of the expo... it was so realistically unrealistic... it was really enticing, in a weird kind of way); Sally Mann "candy cigarette"; A polar bear covered in pale yellow feathers and an ostrich stitched out of a snake skins.
It was quite the day... I wish I could have gotten into it more, but I still struggle with the whole fine art idea... Still, I like to try to push my limits sometimes.

Here's Sally Mann's "Candy Cigarette"... It's probably the one image that stood out the most to me.
Again, image (c) Sally Mann, not me.

Baby Cousin

Mom wants me to make a christmas present for my cousins- a frame for baby dylan, who was born on St. Patty's Day "now don'cha know."

I actually like where it's going and it'll be nice to work with fabric.

A Madman's self-portrait

Yes, I'm aware that I'm a woman but "madwoman" doesn't hardly roll off the tongue... Anyway, I believe this one is self-explanatory... I'm inches from pushing the destroy button.
Bru-haha
Also, this is the print dimension. :P
